The Committee was appointed to advise the Government upon the re-planning and possible reconstruction of certain portions of Macquarie Street and other areas in the vicinity affected by recent changes in the city; to prepare a scheme for consideration of the Government in relation to such questions as the disposal of the Mint site, the best location of the proposed new Law Courts, and the utilisation of the site upon which the Supreme Court stood; certain proposals in relation to the Sydney Hospital; the suggested removal or rebuilding of Parliament House; the suggested removal of the Government Printing Office from its site and the utilisation of the area upon which it stood; and to consider the financial incidence of any proposals in framing its report. Requested to furnish a preliminary report to the government within a few weeks suggesting the draft lay out of the scheme, and after consideration of this scheme it was proposed that competitive designs be invited, and the Committee generally supervise the preparation of plans, etc. for further consideration of the Government.These records consist of typescript minutes of proceedings recording the date and place of each meeting, persons present and business discussed as well as the printed Interim and Final Reports of the Committee to the Minister for Works and Local Government.
