Full description

The Public Works department acted as a constructing and review authority for local government engineering projects.  Within Public Works these activities were undertaken by the Local Government Engineer. 

These records relate to activities, such as appraisals and estimates of storm and flood damage; advice to councils with regard to swimming pools and filtration equipment; bridge construction, repair and restoration; shire engineer appointments; sealing of roads; planning of public and recreational amenities; country air strips; financial assistance to develop tourist facilities; and unemployment relief among other matters.
