These press statements relate to the construction of the Sydney Opera House between August 1962 and December 1966, and deal with: the letting of the contract for Stage II of construction (the erection of the sails in 1962; the planning for the interior; stage lighting and machinery; materials; increasing cost estimates; the conflict between Jørn Utzon and the Minister for Public Works, Davis Hughes (which resulted in Utzon's resignation in March 1966); the appointment of architects Hall, Todd and Littlemore to complete the project; and the letting of the contract to M. R. Hornibrook (NSW) Pty Ltd to undertake Stage III (the final stage of construction). The press statements deal with possibly the most controversial period in the Opera House's construction.
