These registers record current number, former papers, reference to card, and notations (put away, forward registration). They apparently refer to a number of correspondence series which are arranged by subjects or branches of the Department (eg. Buildings, Defence Works, Harbours and Rivers, Miscellaneous, Relief Employment, Sewerage, Water Supply).
