As directed by the Minister for Consumer Affairs, the New South Wales Prices Commission held an inquiry into the pricing of funerals, headed by the Chairman R.H. Evans. Matters considered by the Commission included: charges for funerals and cremations; any associated charges for such; funeral funds and pre-paid funerals; and whether any such services should be declared under the Prices Regulation Act for the purpose of pricing.The first session of the inquiry was gazetted for 2 May 1977 and the decision was handed down on 23 November.
