These are copies of letters sent to officials and private persons concerning business licenses, miners' rights, applications to purchase improved allotments, prospecting mineral leases, gold mining leases and other mining matters. Also included are annual reports on mining in the Sofala Division.

The volume also contains copies of letters sent by the Assistant Gold Commissioner, Sofala, dating from October 1861. Copies of letters sent from 29 May 1892 are in NRS 10490.
