Newcastle Boys’ Junior High School, in the County of Northumberland, opened in 1934 in premises in Tyrrell Street, Newcastle, previously occupied by Newcastle Boys’ High School (1). The exact date of opening was 30 January 1934. A Junior High School is a separate secondary school that emerged in 1930 offering junior secondary education only. The name of the School was changed in 1972 to Newcastle Hill Boys’ High School. It operated with this name until December 1973. A High School is a secondary school which offers the full secondary curriculum and prepares the students for the major public examinations . In January 1974 Newcastle Hill Boys’ High School merged with Hamilton Girls’ High School to form Lambton High School. Endnotes(1) . L.C.
