Brief description Mobile modernities: 'Around-Australia' automobile journeys, 1900-1955. Driving around Australia in a car was a something only a few intrepid people could attempt in the first half of the twentieth-century, but the journeys fascinated national audiences. This study explores how Around-Australia journeys shaped our national life and gave rise to a distinctive Australian car culture.
