Brief description The MV Pacific Celebes is a platform of the Enhancement of Measurements on Ships of Opportunity (SOOP) facility. This is a multipurpose vessel (callsign VRZN9), 197 m length (beam 32 m, draught - 12 m). It makes regular transects between the east and south-east (Melbourne, Brisbane) coasts of Australia and the west coast of North America (Los Angeles, Vancouver). SST is measured by two different types of sensors. One is Aanderaa 4050, 3 of which are installed in a water tank in the engine room, and a Seabird SBE 48. The water supply to the tank comes from the main water intake at the bottom (at the nominal depth of 12 meters) and about 15-20 meters of piping. SBE48 is located in the engine compartment next to the water tank at the depth of 8 meters (when the ship is fully laden). SST and met data are instantaneous, collected every 5 minutes. The data are quality controlled by the Bureau of Meteorology. The daily data files are available from eMII after 0700 UTC.
