Brief description The merchant Vessel Highland Chief is a platform of the Enhancement of Measurements on Ships of Opportunity (SOOP) facility. The vessel cruises routinely between south-east of Australia (Melbourne) and Papua New Guinea, including New Zealand, New Caledonia and Solomon Islands. This is a container ship (callsigh VROB), 158 m length (beam 22 m, draught - 8 m) Bulk SST is measured by SBE48 hull contact sensor. The sensor is installed in --- and its depth is varied from - to - meters (depending on loading of vessel). SST data (along with meteorological data from ship AWS) are instantaneous, collected hourly. The data are quality controlled by the Bureau of Meteorology. The daily data files are available from eMII shortly after 0000 UTC.
