Research Project
Full description Marxan is freely available conservation planning software. It provides decision support to a range of conservation planning problems, including: -- the design of new reserve systems -- reporting on the performance of existing reserve systems -- developing multiple-use zoning plans for natural resource management. Marxan is used worldwide to solve difficult and important problems in the realms of ecology, economics, culture and society. It allows planners to optimally allocate resources when considering and balancing objectives and constraints in these realms. It was used to zone the Great Barrier Reef Marine Protected areas. More recently Australia's federal government used Marxan to zone its Commonwealth waters.
