These are detailed lists of stock on various stations in the district of Gippsland, which was beyond the limits of location, made by the Commissioner, Charles J. Tyers.

These assessments were commanded to be made so that the owners could be taxed on their stock. The entries are quite full and should give a valuable picture of the grazing in the area at that time. The first entries are under Act 2 Vic. no.27 section 18, then the authority becomes 11 Vic. no.18, and finally 22 Vic. no.79.

When this area was included in Victoria, a similar assessment was provided for by the Victorian Statute 22 Vic. no.79.
