Brief description

An experimental seismic reflection survey was made at Tidbinbilla, ACT and Braidwood, NSW in 1969 to investigate the use of long spreads and common-depth-point profiling techniques for recording deep crustal reflections. The survey was complementary to an experimental seismic survey at Mildura, Victoria and Broken Hill, NSW in 1968 to develop techniques for recording deep crustal reflections preparatory to a seismic reflection survey on the 'Geotraverse', a line across the Precambrian shield in the southern part of Western Australia, along which the Australian Upper Mantel Committee initiated a project to study the Earth's crust and upper mantle.

Raw data for this survey are available on request from clientservices@ga.gov.au - Quote eCat# 74982

Statement: Experimental seismic surveys were made by the Bureau of Mineral Resources (BMR) to develop techniques for recording deep crustal reflections, prior to a deep crustal reflection survey on the 'Geotraverse' in western Australia. The Geotraverse project was proposed by the Australian Upper Mantle Committee as a combined geological/geophysical investigation of the Earth's crust and upper mantle along a line across the Precambrian
shield in the southern part of Western Australia.
