Once upon a time, a daughter of Kumbau married into a family. She lived with her parents-in-law and her children. One day, she went to a farm for work. She cleared grass and put it in the hole, then covered it with a tree bark and a stone slab. Hereafter, she sewed a rag the whole day and connected them. Then she wore it and went to the jungle; after that, she became an elephant. This elephant was transformed from a child of Kumbau Kaw. Therefore, Kumbau people did not eat elephant meat. As the elephants were from the human, even though how strong the elephants were when the people herded them, they had to listen and obey them. The elephants were humans once, so they could communicate and listen to people. This elephant asked humans about delivering babies. How many months do you take to give birth? The human answered, We must carry a baby for about nine or ten months. The elephant heard that one year was twelve months needed to carry a baby. Therefore, the elephant carried a baby for twelve months, and she was unbearable to humans and did not like them. So elephants stepped and killed men and women even though they were pregnant. The pregnant women were also chased and stepped on by elephants, and this was about the elephants. From our ancestors' time, we trained and made enslaved elephants. Elephants communicate with humans until the present time. Our grandfathers and grandmothers told stories about elephants to children before. Now I am also telling this story to children who are growing up nowadays. Transcription (La Ring) Ya ngai gaw magwi tai wa ai shinggyim masha kaw na tai wa ai hpe tsun mayu ai.
