Translation (Rita Seng Mai) This is about how our Kachin people built houses. In the past, the Kachin people lived in caves and on trees. Animals that didn't need any shelters to live were not afraid of the dangers of rain or wind. But unlike animals, humans needed shelters to live in. They discussed, "We shouldn't live like this forever." In the past, they hunted animals for their food. Then, a group of men got a big animal for their food. They hung the animal at the pole. They got animals such as lions or bears. They were wondering how they could hunt that kind of big animal. When they raised the animal up, they saw that there were four legs and the whole body was covered by thick fur. They said, "Let's build houses by looking at the structure of this animal." They started building their houses. They picked leaves and used them as roofs and walls. They were thinking about where to put an entrance and exit. If they couldn't decide it, they looked how the animals' body structures. They decided to put an entrance and exit and build the house a bit longer. They said, "Let's put an entrance here and an exit over there." This is how Kachin people started building houses.
