The John Anderson Archive is devoted to the work of John Anderson, Challis Professor of Philosophy at the University of Sydney from 1927 until 1958. Described by D. M. Armstrong (Emeritus Professor of Philosophy, University of Sydney) as "the most important philosopher who has worked in Australia", Anderson was a great educator, controversial public figure, and a leader in the development of the "Australian Realist" school of philosophy in the first half of the twentieth century. The archive aims to provide a comprehensive resource for study and research into the life and works of John Anderson. The John Anderson Archive provides access to a range of digitised items, including previously published works by Professor Anderson, images, audio files, exam papers, notes and other significant archival documents held by the University Archives. The site also provides a point of contact for researchers to access physical collections held within the University, including 3000 items held in the Anderson Family Library.
Significance statement
The archive is a unique collection of the works of John Anderson, and is of relevance to students of Australian or and/or realist schools of philosophy, and those studying the history of philosophy in the twentieth century.
