The Inwards letters appear to originally have been maintained separately from the Outwards letters. Full description

This series contains copies of the letters of the sent by the Council to individuals, organisations and government departments. Subjects covered by the letters include; collection of rates, appointment of Council staff, reporting of yearly accounts to treasurer, collection and payments of accounts, property valuations, correspondence with other councils regarding council boundaries, funding and maintenance of council property such as libraries, schools, hospitals. This volume also contains originals of letters received by the Council. Subjects covered by these letters are petitions, notification re funding, and history of water supply in the area.

The Outwards letters were recorded in Press Copy Books, and arranged roughly in chronological order from the front of the volume. The first volume of letter books has two sections.
