Investigation of the dispersion of two-stroke engine emissions in sea water

Research Project

Researchers: Professor Richard Brown Richard J Brown

Full description The project seeks to reduce the harmful effects on the marine environment of two-stroke outboard motor exhaust emissions resulting from the combustion of fuel and biodegradable/traditional lubricants. A basic understanding of pollutant dispersion from a submerged exhaust through the water is necessary to estimate toxic concentrations and destinations with time. Traditional and new modeling methods, previously applied to atmospheric exhaust plumes, will be used in conjunction with experimental flume data. The results will assist in evaluating the damage caused to the Great Barrier Reef and marine environments generally by petroleum products entering the water.**Grantor:Australian Research Council (ARC)**External Ref:C00107784
