Improving the assessment of risk to aquatic ecosystems from pesticide mixtures

Research Project

Full description Aim The aim of my HDR research is to improve the assessment of risk posed to aquatic ecosystems from pesticide mixtures. Objectives The six key objectives of this research are to: 1. Identify the strengths and limitations of current pesticide risk assessment approaches; 2. Expand the scope of the existing ms-PAF methodology to include additional PAIs, making it applicable to a broader range of land uses both nationally and internationally; 3. Analyse the temporal variation of PAI mixtures and organism rate of recovery from PAIs with different modes of action. This will inform the appropriate method for aggregating temporally variable data into a risk window for reporting; 4. Analyse the most appropriate method of dealing with missing data; 5. Develop and build a model for predicting spatial variation in pesticide toxicity; and 6. Implement the improved PRM and PRB methodology using one or more case studies.
