Full description The cells of our bodies possess a powerful recycling system that removes damaged material that accumulates with age and causes diseases such as dementia. This process is called 'autophagy', and relies on efficient function of the stomach of the cell - what scientists call the 'lysosome'. Although autophagy holds great promise for prevention of dementia, this will only be true while lysosomes work properly. We will develop a method for measuring lysosomal function in the brain using PET imaging.
