Research Background This research is situated in the design and development of jewellery and silversmithing. Ice Archive documents a selection of the development material informed by my previous Antarctic experience and Australia Council residency in London with research of Scott Polar Archive and Museum in Cambridge, the Sir John Soane Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum. Ice Archive incorporates drawings as the exploration of looking and the work consists of hinged panels with drawings in various materials including paper, enamel and plaster. Research Significance This research was presented in the publication and exhibition by Ellen Maurer Zilioli, PRIVATE CONFESSIONS, Drawing & Jewellery. The book was edited by Michael Buhrs, Museum Villa Stuck, and Carin Reinders, CODA Museum. This exhibition is the first of its kind to look at drawing and jewellery and privileged drawing in the creative process by documenting "The multifarious relationships between drawing and jewellery constitute a largely unknown aspect of contemporary studio jewellery." Ice Archive was represented in this important international jewellery exhibition. "Thirty-six international auteurs working in art jewellery share their creative processes with us. Not only does it entail designing; it also invasively incorporates the act of drawing as an autonomous aesthetic undertaking. A cutting-edge approach presents this hitherto underestimated and neglected medium in a new light." Research Contribution The work was selected for this important exhibition. The research explores the essential element of drawing. Carl Knappet, archaeologist states "the drawn archive was not a simple record-making exercise; it was something for the future as much as something from the past." This large-scale international survey exhibition and publication situate this research, which has produced representations using drawing, mark making, enamel and jewellery to consider of Antarctica in new and innovative ways.Issued: 2016-01-01
