Full description

The dataset contains the position of historical aerial photography photo centres and flight lines. Positions may have been captured from flight line diagrams, individual georeferenced photo frames or estimated based on available information. Flight line diagrams depict the aircraft flight paths (also known as 'runs') and the position of the centre of the photograph ('centroid') in relation to ground features. Where flight line diagrams are not available, individual photo frames may have been georeferenced to determine position. Centroid positions may also be estimated where sufficient information is available.
Each photo centre and flight line may include attributes containing additional information related to the feature including capture date, camera and film specifications and scanning status.

Lineage

Maintenance and Update Frequency: quarterly
Statement:
Flight lines and photo centres have been digitised from georeferenced flight line diagrams where available. Information has been transcribed from the flight linage diagrams where legible, noting that many of the flight line diagrams available are of poor quality. Information has been cross referenced with other sources including the National Library of Australia, the National Archives of Australia, other State and Territory Government databases, other aerial photography capture programs and scanned aerial photography frames including film header files supplied with some films. Scanned aerial photography frames that do not have an associated flight line diagram available may have been georeferenced to establish the spatial location of the flight line and photo centre.
Where conflicting information is available, Geoscience Australia has attributed features to the best of our ability based on the sources mentioned above.
