The Historic Buildings Preservation Council was established under the provisions of the Historic Buildings Act 1974. In 1981 the name of the agency was changed to the Historic Buildings Council.The Historic Buildings Council was replaced by the Heritage Council (VA 4220) subsequent to the passing of the Heritage Act 1995.
