Research Project
Full description These projects formed part of a larger effort under the International Wheat Yield Partnership (IWYP) with researchers in the UK, Germany, Italy and Mexico that aimed to improve wheat root systems and boost yield potential. The GRDC-supported activities at The University of Queensland aimed to rapidly develop elite bread wheat and durum wheat lines with a spectrum of root system configurations. In the final year of the projects, elite intro-selection lines and recurrent parents were phenotyped for root and shoot traits in a field experiment which aimed to: 1) validate changes to root distribution, and 2) gain new insights into the relationship between above- and below-ground traits.
