Brief description

This data set contains hydraulic head values for the interconnected Grant Group and Poole Sandstone aquifers obtained from multiple sources including: (i) historical field measurement data stored and available from from the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation Water Information Reporting online data portal, (ii) field measurement data collected as part of targeted field investigations in Taylor et al. (2018) and (iii) field measurements collated from various hydrogeological investigation reports for Indigenous communities and pastoral station groundwater supplies. In this data set, hydraulic head values from 143 bore sites were identified as being suitable to interpolate a standing water level surface for the Grant Group and Poole Sandstone aquifers. ArcGIS was used to interpolate point hydraulic head data into a continuous standing water level surface for the entire extent of the Grant Group and Poole Sandstone within the Fitzroy catchment and some surrounding areas. The purpose of the standing water level surface is to map and understand the spatial changes in depth to hydraulic head which can be related to the cost of pumping the resource.

Lineage

Hydraulic head values for the interconnected Grant Group and Poole Sandstone aquifers were obtained from multiple sources including: (i) historical field measurement data stored and available from from the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation Water Information Reporting online data portal, (ii) field measurement data collected as part of targeted field investigations in Taylor et al. (2018) and (iii) field measurements collated from various hydrogeological investigation reports for Indigenous communities and pastoral station groundwater supplies. Little temporal hydraulic head data exists for the Grant Group and Poole Sandstone aquifers, with most bores having a few spot measurements either (i) at the time of drilling, (ii) during subsequent bore testing close to the installation date, (iii) as part of rehabilitation or maintenance on the bore, or (iv) as part of occasional monitoring. In this data set, 143 bores were identified as being suitable to interpolate a standing water level surface for the Grant Group and Poole Sandstone aquifers. ArcGIS was used to interpolate point hydraulic head data into a continuous standing water level surface for the entire extent of the Grant Group and Poole Sandstone within the Fitzroy catchment and some surrounding areas. Each data point was collected using the Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) coordinate system and the data has been projected as GDA_1994_MGA_Zone_51. The grided and point data is presented as standing water level in metres above or below the natural surface.
