Research Project
Full description A simplistic binary characterisation of habitat and non-habitat with a focus on change in habitat extent has dominated conservation assessments across different spatial scales. We developed an intactness metric captures both habitat loss, quality and fragmentation effects and is calculated using continuous measures of habitat quality. We apply it at a global scale using 1 km^2 resolution data in order to quantify changes in intactness of the world's terrestrial ecoregions over a 16 year period.
