This sub-collection of the Geoscience Australia Geophysics Reference Data Collection are compilations of magnetic, radiometric and gravity data from an extensive archive of over 2200 individual geophysical surveys dating back to 1947, which are contained in other sub-collections of this collection. The individual survey datasets have been acquired by Geoscience Australia and its State and Territory Government partners. The compilations of magnetic, radiometric and gravity data involved the levelling and merging (mosaicking) of regularly interpolated grid (raster) data, from selected individual geophysical surveys, into near-seamless national scale grids for each datatype and creating derivations thereof. The selected individual surveys are chosen based on the spatial resolution and accuracy of individual surveys within a given area. The national compilation grids are at a cell-size resolution judged to be best-suited overall for the national coverages, which are approximately 80 m for the magnetic and radiometric grids and 800 m for the gravity grids. The collection has potential applications in a wide range of disciplines including geological mapping, mineral and petroleum resource exploration, groundwater and environmental resource management, soil science, geodesy, and infrastructure planning.
