Full description

The Trustees of Flagstaff Hill Reserve were appointed by the Executive Council on 21 December 1875, under the provisions of the Public Parks Act, 1854 (1). The duties of the Trustees included effecting improvements and maintenance of the reserve, dealing with requests for the use of the reserve, and drafting regulations (2).

The first regulations were drawn up in 1876 (3). On the 29 April 1884, Flagstaff Hill Reserve was dedicated as a public park for the purposes of public recreation within the meaning of the Public Parks Act, 1884 (4).

Flagstaff Hill Reserve's named was changed to Observatory Park by proclamation on 6 May 1887 (5), and the Trustees became known as the Observatory Park Trustees.

The Observatory Park Trustees were dissolved when the management of Observatory Park was taken over by the Sydney Council on 6 May 1909 (6).
