Brief description

Dr. Eric Wolanski, FTSE, is a coastal oceanographer and ecohydrologist. His research interests include the oceanographyand sediment dynamics of coral reefs, mangroves, and muddy estuaries. They also include the interaction between physical and biological processes determining the ecosystem health in tropical riverine, estuarine and waters. Eric lead the UNESCO-ROSTE estuarine ecohydrology modelling efforts to quantify the impact from farming, dams, irrigation and urbanisation on the ecological services that estuaries provide to humanity. The ecohydrology models that have resultedhave been applied to assess the human impact on the Guadiana Estuary in Portugal, the Great Barrier Reef, Darwin Harbour, coastal waters of Micronesia, Chilika Lagoon in India, the Wami Estuary in Tanzania, the Bohai Sea in China, and Tanzania’s Serengeti ecosystem. Eric has more than 13,000 citations to his 390 publications including the books“Physical oceanography processes of the Great Barrier Reef”, “Oceanographic processes of coral reefs: Physical and biological links in the Great Barrier Reef”, “The environment in Asia Pacific harbours”, “Coastal Wetlands. An integrated ecosystem approach”, “Estuaries of Australia in 2050 and beyond”, and “Estuarine Ecohydrology. An Introduction”.Eric's h-index and citation data are:Citations 13571h-index 66i10-index 205
