eCAPS

Research Project

Full description Our ongoing research (eCAPS) is focusing on innovative uses of web-based video resources and technologies for the learning and assessment of practical skills with a focus on medical and allied health professions. We have piloted our research with, for example, pre-clinical medical students undertaking physical joint examinations (e.g., knee joint) to successfully demonstrate significant improvements in clinical skill and competency. The objective of this phase of our research is to demonstrate the effectiveness of a large scale implementation of eCAPS for the learning and assessment of practical skills covering a wide spectrum of clinical testing within the training programs for accredited exercise physiologists (e.g., skinfold measures, functional oxygen uptake capacity, 12 lead ECG testing, respiratory testing etc). In this research phase, the user community for our eCAPS project is targeted toward medical/health professions (e.g., medical practitioners, accredited exercise physiologists, physiotherapists etc). The major outcomes of the research will be a large-scale implementation and demonstration of the effectiveness of online video resources and technologies for high quality learning and assessment of practical skills for (pre)clinical health professional training. http://www.hms.uq.edu.au/research/research-centres/australian-centre-of-sport,-physical-health-education-research-%28acospher%29/our-research/current-projects/online-clinical-assessment-of-practical-skills-%28ecaps%29/
