Full description

Dr. Berkowitz obtained his MSc (by research) from the Ruhr-University in Bochum and his PhD in 2003 from the IPK Gatersleben and Martin-Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (Germany). He then moved to the Australian National University in Canberra to research the impact of abiotic stress on root development in an GRDC funded project. From 2009 to 2013 he worked in an ARC linkage project on the priming effect of phosphite on plant defence responses in Arabidopsis in the School of Plant Biology at the University of Western Australia (Perth) with a joint affiliation at Murdoch University. From 2013 he worked in an ARC linkage project analysing the development of grape buds under adverse climatic conditions. In 2015 he joined the lab of Prof. Jim Whelan at AgriBio as a member of the La Trobe node of the ARC Centre of Excellence in Plant Energy Biology. He focusses on the application of next-generation sequencing technologies to analyse transcriptomic responses of plants to stress conditions such as phosphate deficiency and during mitochondrial biogenesis.
