Brief description

Dr Christian Heine is an Australian Postdoctoral Fellow, working with EarthByte Group within the School of Geosciences at the University of Sydney.

Dr Heine received his undergraduate degree in Geology from the Ruhr-Universitaet Bochum (Germany) and his PhD in Geophysics from the University of Sydney in 2007, analysing the evolution of sedimentary basins in a global tectonic and geodynamic framework. He worked for Norsk Hydro/Statoil in exploration, basin analysis and structural geology until he returned to academia in 2010.

Dr Heine is currently working in the EarthByte group as Senior Researcher in an ARC Linkage Project entitled "Linking deep Earth and surface processes to frontier basin exploration", sponsored by Shell International Exploration and Production and TOTAL. Dr Heine's research interests are predominantly in structural geology, plate tectonics and mantle dynamics and the use of geospatial computing tools such as GPlates to integrate different datasets and couple plate kinematic models to lithosphere deformation.
