Full description

Aidan Heerdegen is a computational scientist with a background in physical chemistry, but has experience supporting research in climate modelling, and statistical analysis of climate data.

Aidan is primarily responsible for supporting the use and development of ocean simulation codes within the Centre. Currently supported codes are MOM5, MOM6, GOLD and MITgcm.

A current major focus is development of a new high resolution (1/10th degree) global ocean model configuration for MOM5 in collaboration with CSIRO (CAWCR) and the Bureau of Meteorology.

Dr Heerdegen has a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Physics and Chemistry from Massey University (NZ), and a PhD from ANU. His doctoral thesis was on Monte-Carlo modelling of diffuse x-ray scattering from disordered materials. He joined the Centre’s CMS team at ANU in 2014.
