By a Great Britain and Ireland Order in Council of 9 March 1847, leases could be granted to settlers occupying lands beyond the settled districts, subject to certain conditions. Leases had to be renewed annually, and runs had to be described accurately. Each description has been given a running registered number, by which the series is arranged.
