Surveyors identified all seedlings (>0.1 m, >1.5 m height) within 1 m to the north. The position was recorded as the distance from the start of the transect, and the perpendicular distance along a 1 m rule. All seedlings were fitted with a numbered aluminium tag. The tag was attached to a stainless steel peg put into the ground approximately 5 cm west of the seedling. Seedling height, family, genus and species for all seedlings were measured and recorded.
