Brief description

The main objective of the SENTINEL-3 mission is to measure sea surface topography, sea and land surface temperature, and ocean and land surface colour with high accuracy and reliability to support ocean forecasting systems, environmental monitoring and climate monitoring.

Statement: Europe's Copernicus programme, and its constituent Sentinel constellation of satellites specifically, has been identified as a critical source of Earth observations from space data for Australia.
Recognising the importance of these satellites, Geoscience Australia, CSIRO, the Government of New South Wales, Government of Queensland and Government of Western Australia have formed a consortium to make data from Europe's Sentinel satellites easier to access and use for businesses, researchers, governments and the general public in the South-East Asia and South Pacific region.
On 4 November 2015, Australia and the European Union agreed to cooperate and to promote exploitation of data from the Sentinel satellites. A key element of this cooperation is around enhancing data access in the South East Asia-South Pacific region, with Australia agreeing to establish a Data Hub to support data access and exploitation in that region.
Geoscience Australia, representing consortium partners, is responsible for the download, maintenance and distribution to users of Sentinel-3 data at various levels of processing in South-East Asia/South Pacific through the regional data hub of Copernicus Australian Area of Interest. The National Computational Infrastructure in Canberra is the master repository of the data.
