In the 2013 Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) assessment, Swinburne was once again awarded an ERA 5 rating well above world standard for Astronomical and Space Sciences, and was the only university in Victoria to receive an ERA 5 rating for Physical Sciences. Swinburne was also the only university in Australia to achieve an ERA 5 rating for Maritime Engineering, through the work of Swinburne's Centre for Ocean Engineering, Science and Technology.
