Contraction dependent geometrical changes in human lower limb muscle and aponeurosis

Full description The aponeurosis and tendon of skeletal muscle are often considered as one elastic element with similar mechanical properties, which undergoes identical strains under the same force at different muscle-tendon lengths. Although recent evidence from animal muscle preparations suggests that aponeurosis strains may vary under the same active and passive forces, it is currently unknown if the aponeurosis stiffness of much larger human muscles can be modulated, and if so, what factors are important. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine if the apparent longitudinal stiffness of the human tibialis anterior central aponeurosis could be modulated by changes in MTU length.
