Full description
The Centre for the Built Enviornment and Health (CBEH) in conjunction with Dr May Carter from PlaceScape was commissioned by the City of Subiaco to develop an overarching strategy to inform the provision of play spaces within its parks. The POS tool aided with viewing the parks spatially in the custom map interface and with having complete and consistent data across all parks within the LGA (31 parks in total). Additionally the tool assisted with data extracted relating to the presence of play equipment, park hierarchy and park size. The POS catchment data was utilized to determine the proportion of population within various distances of parks (i.e 400 metres of Small Neighbourhood Parks), including the breakdown of percentages of children and young people residing within this catchment. This applied use of this POS data enabled the appraisal of variability in current playspace distribution, walkability and amenity across the LGA. The resultant Playspace strategy was ratified by the City of Subiaco Council in May 2013, and will be used to inform the development and redevelopment of playspaces and parks within the LGA.
