Full description This project, with researchers Dr Patricia Wright, Dr Elise Diamond and Professor Ove Peters, surveyed the Australian Society of Endodontology (ASE) membership on EDTA chelating gel usage. The survey sought to gauge gel usage patterns amongst different age groups and member categories including endodontist, Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (DClinDent) student and general dentist. Additionally, the survey aimed to determine reasons why or why not clinicians use a chelating gel, whether they found the gel useful for difficult cases of root canal treatments, and if the clinician was satisfied with the physical properties of the chelation gel they use. An analysis of the results indicated that endodontists and DClinDent students are less likely to use a chelating gel than general dentists. Older ASE members have higher chelation gel usage compared to younger members, indicating a possible reduced gel usage over time amongst ASE members.
