Full description Despite the surveillance and enforcement work by the Department of Environment Malaysia towards industrial sectors to ensure compliance with the discharge limit set under the Industrial Effluent Regulation 2009, river pollution persists. Hence, this study focuses on investigating environmental compliance of industries in Malaysia and examining regulatory mechanisms for limiting river pollution caused by industries, as well as ways to improve compliance and potential alternative compliance rating assessments. This study engaged with industrial stakeholders involved in water management to gain a better understanding of the challenges they face in complying with environmental legislation.
