Full description

A public school was established at Cessnock in the County of Northumberland during 1867 (the exact date is unknown) .

In 1913 the School became a Primary School Plus offering various kinds of junior secondary education between that date and 1933. These included home science subjects (1913-1932) and the commercial curriculum (1913 -1917). In the years 1918-1920 and 1929-1931 it was a Junior Technical School. It was a Boys' Intermediate High School from 1920 until 1932 and an Intermediate High School in 1933.

In 1934 the School resumed its original status as a Public School. In this same year the Cessnock High School was established to cater for the education of secondary students.

Prior to the establishment of this school a previous public school was conducted at Cessnock in 1859 and 1860.
