Full description

In 2023, we undertook several refinements to the Healthy Eating Index for Australian Adults (HEIFA-2013), which was initially developed by Roy et al. 2016. The following list provides an overview of the steps:

  1. Mapping the AUSNUT 2011-13 8-digit food codes and recipe database to the HEIFA-2013 components
  2. Identifying discretionary items using the Australian Bureau of Statistics discretionary flag for AUSNUT2013
  3. Aligning water intake with the Nutrient Reference Values (NRV) for water intake
  4. Aligning alcohol criteria with the National Health and Medical Research Council guidelines
  5. Increasing the precision of the scoring scales to account for differences when reporting data from 24hr recalls
  6. Creating Python code to automate the calculation of HEIFA for the age and sex groups in the Australian Dietary Guidelines (2013) see https://github.com/tazeek/autotake-food24.git
  7. Creating csv templates for uploading data
  8. Automating the process using an online dashboard called Autotake
