Full description
In 2023, we undertook several refinements to the Healthy Eating Index for Australian Adults (HEIFA-2013), which was initially developed by Roy et al. 2016. The following list provides an overview of the steps:
- Mapping the AUSNUT 2011-13 8-digit food codes and recipe database to the HEIFA-2013 components
- Identifying discretionary items using the Australian Bureau of Statistics discretionary flag for AUSNUT2013
- Aligning water intake with the Nutrient Reference Values (NRV) for water intake
- Aligning alcohol criteria with the National Health and Medical Research Council guidelines
- Increasing the precision of the scoring scales to account for differences when reporting data from 24hr recalls
- Creating Python code to automate the calculation of HEIFA for the age and sex groups in the Australian Dietary Guidelines (2013) see https://github.com/tazeek/autotake-food24.git
- Creating csv templates for uploading data
- Automating the process using an online dashboard called Autotake
