The Museum of Ancient Cultures at Macquarie University, Sydney, holds some 700 papyri, mainly in Greek, but also in other languages and scripts, such as Demotic and Coptic (Egyptian). Most are written on papyrus, but the collection also includes some texts on ostraca (potsherd), parchment, and wood. Most of the texts date from the 3rd century BC to the 8th century AD. The collection contains 000 archives. Among these is the archive Archive of Aspidas. This is comprised of 40 texts, all of which are written in Greek on papyrus. The archive comes from Hipponon (Qarara) in Egypt, and dates to the first half of the 4th century CE.
