Brief description
The Archaeological Fish Bone Images Archive Tables contains tables, data indexes and explanations of data relationships useful for the archaeological and historical study of fish and fishing from south eastern Australia and the Sydney region in particular.
Tables include: List of Fishes, Fish Taxon Names and Codes, Fish Anatomy Names and Codes and 1880s NSW Fisheries Commission Information. All files are presented in either spreadsheet (.xls) or PDF format.
The Archaeological Fish Bone Images Archive Tables relate to historical archaeological research on fish and fishing in and around Sydney and to the Archaeological Fish-Bone Images collection, a collaborative digitisation project between archaeologist Dr Sarah Colley, photographer Russell Workman, and the University of Sydney Library (Sydney eScholarship).
The archive tables are an output of research conducted by Dr Sarah Colley for the Sydney Fish Project Stage 1. The content, coding and data structures are useful for other researchers who wish to document and interpret fish remains from other comparable archaeological sites. The tables include interpretation of Aboriginal and colonial fish and fishing in the Sydney region from before and after AD1788 based on archaeological, historical and environmental information.
Further information about the archive tables and the corresponding Archaeological Fish-Bone Images collection can be accessed through an associated journal article published in Internet Archaeology.
The Archaeologial Fish Bone Images Archive Tables are available online via the Sydney eScholarship repository.
