Research Project
Full description Photosynthesis and stomatal conductance is fundamental and carbon gain and water use relations of plants. This influences whole-crop transpiration efficiency, which is a key trait for adaptation especially drought prone environment and future climate projections. This project aims to dissect physiological and genetic differences in transpiration efficiency (TE) among sorghum genotypes by looking at plant physiological activities at the leaf level. This research will not only study the effect of interplay among leaf transpiration and photosynthesis on the whole plant TE but also study how does it affect the crop yield by simulation study on the APSIM platform. A high throughput screening method for rapid and non-destructive selecting sorghum genotypes with high TE is expected to be tested in this project.
