Full description
Following the proclamation of the Apprenticeship Act 1927 (No.3546) on 8 May 1928 the Apprenticeship Commission was established. The first members were appointed on 1 July 1928. The members of the Commission represented the Chamber of Manufacturers and the Trades Hall Council. The first meeting of the Commission was held on 27 July 1928.The Commission was a statutory authority and reported directly to the Minister responsible for administering the Act. The Apprenticeship Commission received administrative support from the Department of Labour (I) (VA 2874) between 1928 and 1954 and from the Department of Labour and Industry (VA 1027) from 1954 until 1975.
Following the proclamation of the Industrial Training Act 1975 (No.8706) on 2 August 1975, the Apprenticeship Commission was superseded by the Industrial Training Commission (VA 900).
