Brief description

Evaluation of the morphological variation within the genus Polyosma (Escalloniaceae) of Australia, New Caledonia and Papuasia based on herbarium specimens to clarify the taxonomy of the recognized species in this genus. These data also identified several previously unpublished species that are new to science.

Notes

Supplemental Information
Definition of metadata is provided in Taxonomic review of Polyosma Blume (Escalloniaceae) in Papuasia by Oliver K. Paul, Barry J. Conn and Murray J. Henwood, to be published in Blumea (2023).

Lineage

Morphological features measured by metric scales from representative herbarium collections held in herbaria.

Progress Code: completed
Maintenance and Update Frequency: notPlanned

Notes

Credit
We at TERN acknowledge the Traditional Owners and Custodians throughout Australia, New Zealand and all nations. We honour their profound connections to land, water, biodiversity and culture and pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.

Herbarium specimens held at the National Herbarium of New South Wales (NSW), The Papua New Guinea National Herbarium (LAE), Naturalis, The Netherlands (L), The Herbarium of the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, United Kingdom (K) were used to create this dataset. We gratefully acknowledge them for providing access to their collections.
Purpose
The evaluation of the morphology was used to circumscribe species of Polyosma and to evaluate the status of any potentially new, undescribed species.
