Under the Prisons Act 1899, the Oberon Afforestation Camp was established on 23 July 1930. The Camp was established as a place of detention for the purpose of employing prisoners in the work of tree planting. The Camp was located on an area of 4600 acres in the County of Georgiana and Parish of Gurnang. (1)
Oberon Afforestation Camp ceased to be a prison on 24 March 1993 under a proclamation in the Government Gazette. (2)
Records from the Camp continue past prison closure date until 6 February 1994. (3)
